Resistance to violence cannot consist of violence. Violence may change the direction of violence, invert the roles of violator and victim, but it necessarily affirms the principle of violence, whatever else it may achieve. And it adds new victims to the world — victims of our own making, not to mention more violent perpetrators, whose ranks we have decided to join.
